About

What Are UV Tattoos?

UV tattoos are performed with a special type of ink, which contain specific compounds that under a blacklight, release energy in the form of light, otherwise known as fluorescence.

Do UV Tattoos Glow In The Dark?

In short, no. There is a common misconception that UV tattoo ink contains the same compounds found in glow in the dark products. The compounds found in glow sticks (Zinc Sulfide) are not deemed safe for human skin. Fluorescence, however, is a natural reaction to UV light — found in minerals, tonic water and throughout nature, including bioluminescent algae and certain species of scorpions and frogs.

What Do They Look Like In Normal Light?

In daylight, these inks are either invisible or look just like regular colour inks.

How Long Do UV Tattoos Last?

Usually, UV tattoos last just as long as colour tattoos. Longevity depends on placement, skin type, proper aftercare and sun exposure. The invisible ink — the electric blue seen on jjhalltattoo artwork — may need a touch up after 18–24 months depending on skin type. The invisible ink is only used on skin types and body locations where it will hold over time.

Are UV Tattoos Safe?

UV-reactive inks work through fluorescence — a natural reaction to UV light — rather than the glow-in-the-dark compounds found in glow sticks. As with any tattoo, work with a professional artist and follow proper aftercare. jjhalltattoo uses inks and placements chosen to hold safely over time.
